Ol Tukai is the only established lodge actually inside Amboseli National Park rather than on the boundary. The lodge itself is more established (read: older) than Serena, but recent renovations have brought the rooms up to a reasonable standard. Full board includes all meals. - Best value for money: Sentrim Amboseli. You get roughly the same game viewing as Serena at a meaningfully lower price. The Kilimanjaro views are equivalent. Book Sentrim if budget is a real consideration.
- Best wildlife access: Ol Tukai Lodge. Inside the park. Elephants in the grounds. If wildlife is everything and comfort is secondary, this is the booking.

One thing that matters more than any other: book the morning game drive for 6am departure, not 7am. The light, the predator activity, and the Kilimanjaro visibility are all significantly better in the first hour after dawn. Confirm departure times with your lodge before booking.

Amboseli National Park fees (not included in most lodge rates)
Park entry is charged separately by Kenya Wildlife Service and is not included in most lodge rates. Current fees are approximately $80 USD per adult per day (2026). Confirm with your lodge whether this is included or additional — some full-board lodges bundle it, most do not. Budget for this on top of your accommodation rate.
Full board vs game-drive-only rates
All hotels above are quoted at full board rates — breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Some lodges offer a game-drive-only rate without meals. Full board is almost always the better deal in Amboseli because there are no restaurants or alternative eating options within the park or near most boundary camps. Always book full board.
How many nights do you need in Amboseli?
Two nights minimum. Three nights is the sweet spot — enough time for three or four game drives, a realistic chance at clear Kilimanjaro views on at least one morning, and not rushing. Four nights only makes sense if photography is a priority. One night is not enough to do it justice.
Best time to book Amboseli
The best game viewing months are January to February (dry, excellent elephant and predator activity) and June to October (dry season peak, peak Kilimanjaro clarity). Book 2 to 3 months ahead for these windows — the best lodges, particularly Tawi and Tortilis, fill 4 to 6 months ahead in July to October.
